This has been covered a lot over the years. In summary the circuity inside a MP/emate is very very delicate when it comes to power. The original supplies have a lot of regulations and protections that 99.9999999% of 3rd party power supplies out there don't.

So it is simply NOT worth the risk. If you are an electrical engineer with the ability to build or otherwise have a very expensive power supply that is regulated, has protections, and never ever varies ONE BIT. Then yes maybe. But again it is NOT worth the risk. We have seen MANY people over the years think they have a solution only to blow a newton a few days to months down the road. So I repeat: it is NOT worth the risk.

There is your summary version. Frank can give more electrical details I am sure. :)
