Michael,

I *think* this cable would work.  They don't give the pin connection details, though.  But it seems likely that the PLC end would match the DIN standard for serial communication.  Back in the day, I used a printer cable with the DIN to DB-9, and it worked with a PC and my Newton.  I may have added a null-modem to it to get the correct pin connections though.

Is there any reason why something like the Uxcell RS232 DB9 to 8P Mini DIN cable would not work for connecting a Newton to a PC?  Must one really purchase the new pretty expensive official Apple cable to do such a thing?
