Welcome to the list. The fastest way to get up to speed with the Newton would be to check out the FAQ linked at the bottom of all Newtontalk messages. Tony Kan's blog on the Newton also has a lot of great information about getting started. Check out the sidebar for Newton Support. <http://myapplenewton.blogspot.com>

With that said, you will probably need two programs for your computer. First is Newton Connection Utilities <http://www.unna.org/view.php?/apple/connection_utils/ForPC/NewtonConnectionUtilites>, which will allow you to transfer data to and from your Newton. The second is Slowdown.exe <http://www.unna.org/unna/windows/slowdown.exe>. Most modern computers (anything made after 2000) are too fast to reliably talk to the Newton with NCU over serial. The solution is to launch 2-3 instances of Slowdown.exe to occupy the CPU.
