[NTLK] The Lake Tahoe Hiking Newton … to be auction off for charity

Tony: Fear not, I'm not abandoning my Newton, Tahoe, Sunsets, hiking, photography, nor any of the things I enjoy. In fact, I'm enjoying them more than ever. I still carry my 2100 when I hike, just not fully equipped with all the added-on mods. It's becoming more of a personal journal of sorts. It's obvious my iPhone 5 can do many things (in the field) than my Hiking Newton could ever do. Consider… I'm downsizing and ramping up for even better things to come.

Dennis: This state really frowns upon cameras and handheld computers in and around their equipment. If you piss off the NSA, you simply disappear. If you piss off the casinos, you learn what knee and shoulder pain can truly feel like. ;-) I like how the title rhymes, though!

I always planned to sell my Hiking Newton as a collector's item. As fate would have it, now is is the best time to do it…with all the positive PR surrounding the 20th anniversary and the Wired.com article.

At the same time, I do want it to go to a collector who will keep it for posterity. Also, I need to buy a car. But I am currently without a source of good income. I was hoping to capitalize on the current interest and, at the same time, give something to someone… who has had much more of a harder time in life… Rather than my (selfish?) desire to maximize the selling price… I so want to pass it forward, without sounding cliché.

Or, maybe it’s just a mid-life crisis and I don't even know it yet.
