Dear NewtonTalk Users,
I'd like to give an update on my situation. I chopped up my dongle since I couldn't get continuity. If you do this connect the blue and blue stripe wires of the dongle to the orange and orange stripe wires of a cat5 ethernet cable and connect the orange and orange stripe wires of the dongle to the green and green stripe wires of the ethernet cable.
Was was still having trouble until I read some of the archives and found that the Newton only likes to be connected directly to the router. Previously I had it connected via an ethernet switch. Now I'm able to establish a connection to NCX via TCP/IP dock and either DHCP or manual configuration. I can also bring up webpages in Courier but can not email because of the lack of SSL. I perked up a bit when I found a project on Google Code called NewtSSL. http://code.google.com/p/newtssl/ Does anyone know if it's active?
