Yes, big difference. ADB was the neanderthal cousin of PS/2 for keyboards and mice. Appletalk was a moderate speed network connection, more like USB. Both use a mini-DIN plug (ADB was 4 pins with a key), but they are not the same.

On an N2K the interconnect dongle plugged into either a mini-DIN to DE-9 cable for PeeCees or a mini-DIN to mini-DIN cable for Macs. For the Mac, it was a regular Appletalk cable (sometimes known as a localtalk cable since Appletalk was a protocol that went over local talk, ethernet, modem, yadda).

If you run down to your local old school Mac dealer in town that still laments the passing of MacOS-8, they would probably give you a localtalk cable because you're trying to do something old.
