The driver you both pointed me towards worked! I can now use my Newt USB-001 with my Mac Mini without having to tediously dual-boot into WinXP and wait for DropBox to update my Newton packages collection in My Documents before installing things.  

Lloyd - you should try the drivers at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm (available for OSX 10.3 through 10.6, and Windows XP etc, even WinCE)
