And how exactly is the iPad better? It's still the same old application-based GUI and I don't want any company controlling what I can do and what I can't.

In my opinion the Newton soup system and just the whole Newton way of doing things is the future, with NewtonScript, the Assistant, and everything, just adapted to the keyboard and mouse. I'd like to see more emphasis on the keyboard personally. It lets you work faster, and that's part of the reason I don't like the Mac GUI that much. (but let's keep OS flamewars out of this discussion)
