Robert:

Good comments. What is so difficult for us, is understanding things are parts of systems. Systems theory is again the buzz word in science. From Cancer Specialists to Physicists, we are now trying to understand things much more broadly from a systems perspective. That's because our models and approaches to things like disease and figuring out the cosmos has been to simple.

In the case of brain-machine interfaces, we don't have to know everything there is to know about the brain for these things to work. It just works. Implanting circuitry in the brain with learned algorithms attached is incredibly powerful.
