Say on a 2100, which crashes less from say an hour of consecutive track
playing, the MP3 player or the MOD player? I was thinking of using a
2100
for some background sound, so quality is not as important as error-free
uptime. I know MODs are not the same as MP3s, but for my purpose "they
are".

Mods will play till the cows come home.

MP3's, not nearly as stable. Truth is unless packaged and reformed into
a specific size and way ... as best I remember, will run out of heap
space after a few songs. I don't remember the Newton being a great Mp3
player honestly. One of the reasons I stopped using the Newton so
much... storage (and getting things to storage) and reliability of Mp3
playback.
