No, it is more of a working slot within the widget. You can set it, and
read it back.

Remember that the various bits of the Newton are built up from prototypes.
Apple put together something that holds a label. They cobbled together
something that you can put text into. You take one of the first, one of the
second, add some extra goodness and you get a protoLabelInputLine. It has
all of the goodness of a protoStaticText AND a protoInputLine.

 From Prog Ref 7-18 text slot of a protoInputLine - "During run time, this
slot holds the current text that exists in the input field."
