This video is a bit better: revised annotations with music by Pet Shop Boys.

Some notes:

OS 8 doesn't cut it in the wifi world: OS 9+ with Airport 2.x does 128 bit encryption, for instance, and works right out of the box with the wifi card in this upgrade. Really tough to install a new OS on the 2400c though, since it is running 8.1 and I want to bump it up to 9. I have on order OS 9.2.1, and will install it perhaps by mounting the 2400c as a network drive.

OS 9 will run well on it, since it has 112 MB RAM and the 180 MHz, 603e chip that is a much better performer than the chips in the 1400s and 5300s for instance.

But what I will likely do is just forget the internal hard drive altogether, and us a CF Flash SanDisk Extreme III with PC Card adapter, and install OS 9 on it. Since I enabled CardBus on the PC Card slots, I am no longer limited to 16 bit addressing: now it's 32 bit. So the speed of booting from and using a PC Card will be faster than say my PB 5300ce.

In fact, the machine 'should' show a marked speed increase using the Extreme III over the internal hard drive based on tests done to other PowerBooks. I was just going to rip out the internal HD all together, but I did not feel like it. Besides, taking it out will cause the balance of weight throughout the machine to be thrown off...
and it is already quite light.

The internal wifi works as it should and I am more than happy about that upgrade. For me, the days of wifi cards sticking out are over. The total cost of the wifi card and antennae apparatus was under $70 with shipping, which is less than an Apple Airport card (on average).

One caveat: DO NOT try and use iBook Clamshell wifi antennaes: the wire is too thick to feed under the wifi card. You need to use iBook G4 antennaes, for instance, and I presume TiBook antennaes are the same, and perhaps the iBook G3 (Dual USB) antennaes are too.

As long as the wire is thin, and not thicker (avoid the clear plastic cover with the silver, threaded wire underneath as in the iBook Clamshell antennaes). This applies to any PowerBook or Newton you do the upgrade on.

Yeah I went back and tested again.
The original window that opens eventually ran the video, but iTunes gave the
error and would not play... but I did see it.
