How about SuperGlue? I've used it on just about everything imaginable and it usually works as advertised. Maybe put in some thin piece of plastic to act as a stiffener? I'm sure this can be fixed without tossing the computer inside.
Whatever you find that works, be sure to share the fix with the list as we've all been wondering how long a Newton will last. Maybe it's case failure that comes first?
