Yes. I use postfix (SMTP) and cyrus (IMAP) on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Server, essentiall what that software enables, and it works fine.
However, what you're doing it creating a mail server. So, you'll
config your Newton to communicate with it just as you would any other
mail server and then you'd also have to configure a mail client on
your computer to talk to it as well.

It's not particularly difficult, but you could be using any mail
server and don't necessarily need to configure & manage one yourself.
