Assuming that you are using a Newton running OS
2.0 or
2.1, it should be sufficient to turn the HWR prefs
to
"Printed". In this mode the Newton will not try to
find
the written word in the built-in (and localized)
dictionary, but recognize character by character.
I usually use English OS Newtons and never had a
problem
with recognition of German writing that way.
