I'm using a first gen MacBook Pro with 10.4.8. Newt sync is
temperamental
with ical so you need a plug from the below site.

Also if your running classic you must make sure that you don't
install the
classic driver for the keyspan and the os x one. Only one will work
at a time
so remove the classic one completely and install the os x one
