To counter these points:

1. Most iPod and iPhone owners are not even remotely competent techs.

2. The iPhone battery wires are actually soldered, as opposed to the iPod.

So no matter what, most owners of these devices are looking at extra
expense in addition to the cost of the replacement battery itself.

Either way, serious lack of thinking went into this aspect of the
device. We all know the nightmares of dealing with fizzled Newton
battery packs...and at least those were removable. I thought that Apple
would have learned from their experiences.
