Re: [NTLK] Newton is dead, long live Newton.

Has nobody said anything about the complete lack of newton intelligence in this iphone (tm?) thing? What makes the Newton a Personal device is it's intelligence. I know I espoused this point in the past, but I think that whenever you attempt to compare the Newton against any other device, you can't ignore the thing that makes the Newton the best PDA on the market.
I own a blackberry and love that it converges so many things...but something happened today that made me really think about how I use technological gadgets.
Today I left home without my blackberry...and you konw what? I barely noticed it wsa missing! The same can not be said about my Newt...I can't remember a day where I did not have my Newton by my side...And why is that? It's because using my BB, I have to scroll through a half a dozen rows of unidentifiable icons just to play solitare....or dial a phone number (yeah, I kjnow about shortcut keys, but I use a special home page that doesn't allow the use of shortcut keys. In other words, the bb isn't the easiest thing to use.
I have used a bunch of PDA devices, including phones and such...and they all have the same thing in common...they either try to port a desktop os to a portable device with little reference to the fact that you're portable...or they completly iconize things to the point where you have no idea what the heck you're supposed to tap on. The Newton, while quite iconized, allows the newton to be used in a way where the applications are aware of other application's data...thereby not needint you to use two applications to get things done..
This is what makes the Newton intelligent...

Why?

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just not sure why this is
important. I would think I could type faster, even using these non-
buttons that will require a learning curve, than I can write. Not to
mention having to use a stylus. And my handwriting is pretty good.

I like the iPhone. I think the UI is pretty amazing. I think it has
too many drawbacks in its current form (small HD, "locked" format,
etc.), but I certainly foresee it being something I'd buy down the road.

In this case I was trying for Engadget.com, and instead wound up at www.edgadget.com which appears to have lots of Newton software.
