I wonder if OSX will refuse to install if the PRAM battery is dead,
and if you have checked that? Also, resetting PRAM might help. If
you somehow have a non-bootable DVD player (this is the DVD version,
yes?), for example through a 3rd party update, that would cause
trouble, as well.
