[NTLK] A Moment of Silence for A Newton dead in the line of duty....

Today, I got to play poster boy for the NYC MTA (metropolitan transit
authority) ads about not running on the subway platform when I slipped
just inches from the door and flopped onto my back---wearing a backpack
which cushioned the fall, so I was not hurt at all. However....

My MP2100 was in the rearmost pocket of the backpack so it hit the
ground followed by my full weight. The screen did not survive the
impact :-(

Fortunately, just over a week ago, I had synchronized my backup MP2100,
so when I got home, I pulled the 10MB card from the damaged Newt,
plugged it into the backup, did a restart and all is well for me, if not
the poor old Newt. I've had it for 8+ years, and the screen was still
in great shape although I was starting to have occasional jaggies. I've
got my data and the "new" Newt is actually in better cosmetic condition,
but I still liked my old one, even if the SER-001 installed had cracked
the back case and the batter cover door had fallen off, and the hinges
been replaced once....

I'll probably let it lie in state for a few days then shop for a
replacement screen. When I turned it on, you could still see the soft
button bar at the bottom, although it wouldn't respond to any taps.
