If you have access to someone in your area that would be willing to be
an overnight guinea pig, perhaps you can swap battery packs. If s/he is
using a regular battery pack (which was fully charged before s/he left,
of course) and switches it with one of your rebuilt packs, this will
determine whether it's something on your Newt, or it's the battery pack
(assuming, of course, that your friend's Newton exhibits the same
problem and your problem goes away with their battery pack installed).
