Basically freeze what you don't need to use. It depends on what you
have installed though, because some packages require other packages to
run. Though the vast majority will run with just the "main" package and
the others are just "ad on modules" that will add to what the main
package can do.

If you free something and another package won't work, it will tell you
something is missing. You can then go and unfreeze the other package
you need. You can't hurt anything by "freezing" the wrong package. It
just won't work till you unfreeze it.

Also what model Newt do you have? If you have a MP2100, then you will
probably be able to have all your packages thawed and ready to use. If
you have a MP2000, you won't be able to have as many. Each package
takes "heap" (something something similar to RAM on a desktop) if it is
thawed. And if you get messages that say "Newton does not have enough
memory to do what you ask, reset might fix this....." quite often, time
to freeze some unneeded packages to free up heap.
