Try this in a terminal window

ls -FRB | grep ':' > file.txt

The above command took 7 seconds to list all 8 CD's to a text file. I'm
sure it could have much been faster if I wasn't stuck with a single
500Mhz processor ;-)

PS...all 8 CD's now reside on a single DVD, that's if you're wondering
how I managed to swap disks so quickly.
