Gah. No. They didn't. Floppy ports have been on PC motherboards since
about 1983.

They use the same floppy connector on the motherboard as the 3.5" PC
drives do. They do need BIOS support and need the correct cable though,
and the cables are kinda scarce these days. One would be searching for
a "five-connector floppy cable". That will provide support for 2 3.5"
drives and 2 5.25" drives.
