I wouldn't say NO ONE uses it. I use it all the time when editing
photos. I have the keyboard tucked away and my tablet on my lap. It's a
WACOM that has the buttons on the side that I use for panning/zooming,
option-clicking, etc. To switch between tools, I use gestures, similar
to how Dashboard does it on the Newt. Of course, this is a
special-purpose activity, but it definitely is useful in these
circumstances.

Actually, in some respects it works better, especially on
pressure-sensitive tablets -- your ink really looks like ink (or
pencil). Further, having a fast CPU behind it doesn't hurt either. It
is odd that I'm not seeing the ink directly under my pen, but the human
brain is great at combining the two surfaces internally. It makes
sense, otherwise the mouse wouldn't have become so popular.
