Dear friends,

one medical app that I really want to see on the Newton would be a
personal family planning/contraception helper tool. There is a free
gestational calculator for determining birth dates called The Wheel
(http://www.unna.org/view.php?/utilites/TheWheel-GestationalAgeCalc -
Victor, shouldn't this be in .applications/medical instead of
.utilities ?) which was written by the very gentleman who also gave the
world Bowser and a couple other medical packages AFAIK, but that's only
useful after the fact.

What I'm thinking about would be an app that allows tracking the
monthly cycle and then help determinate which days will be fertile (aka
no-no), which so-so (risky) and which not (safe), like a digital
Knaus-Ogino calendar improved with options to add additional
observations (temperature, etc.) usually used independently in tracking
fertile days. Run that data against periodical statistics and combine
the result with a private view in Newton's Dates app, and it'd be ready
to use.

This tool would help improve personal contraceptive strategies and
all-around family planning. There are a couple such apps as free- and
shareware and with varying features, but for Windows desktops only and
to my best knowledge none for PDAs, least of all for Newton OS. D'oh -
how much good would such a tool be if you'd have to log on to or even
boot a desktop box for adding entries or checking the calendar?! But a
bedside fertility tracker would help couples trying to have a child as
well as people trying to avoid a pregnancy. For the first, it will
increase the chances to have success, and for the latter such a tool
combined with mechanical contraceptives will reduce insecurity and
fears. For both parties, it will allow better family planning.

I reckon it is good to ask the medical community of Newtonia if not
maybe a tool might be devised that could help in such matters.
It should run on all Newton OS releases, so even with any old 1x0
folks' live could be improved. Maybe it would even be good to do this
in Waba to allow for portability, so more people than just Newton users
may benefit from such a project. (Honestly - it seems to me our
MessagePads and all other PDAs were just made for such extremely
personal applications!)

All comments appreciated, Any takers?

Finest regards,

DJ Vollkasko
