I agree with you. But I would also add the WriteStuff package as well.
  This set of apps really enhaces NewtWorks. It adds HWR (Scribe
Works), Word Count (a word/sentence/paragraph counter), style sheets, a
Tabulator (Convert spaces to tabs and vice versa), character picker,
Autotext (allows the use of the Newts builtin "auto expand" glossary
with the abitity to edit it), ProPoint (same thing program this version
is a newer version than the one that comes with Merlin/Word Seluth), and
a several nice typeset fonts that will work anywhere on the Newt.

Both are $10 from http://www.landware.com/newton and you definitly can't
go wrong with them. :)
