I use the Keyspan adapter, a Newton dongle and a round-pin to round-
pin serial cable (or whatever is the official name!). NewTen works
fine to send packages. Escale also seems to work, but it's my 2nd
choice.

You may need to download the drivers for the Keyspan from their
website - which is what I had to do. I presume they are still
available.
