[NTLK] Can anyone actually solve this?

Hi All,
"This" is the problem of an intermittent ethernet connection to my
router. It is almost as if somewhere there is a time switch. It
works and then won't work for an interval, then it will work again.

Sometimes DHCP will work sometimes not. If it doesn't then a manual
connection may work instead but may not. If I start with a manual
connection it may work and then DHCP won't.

(Ethernet card is recognised as a Megaherz 589E Newt 2k (upgraded)
Netgear DG834G router. NIE 2 and all the 3Com drivers installed)

For example....I tried Ethernet connection on Inbox for receive -
manual setup worked fine! After that it now refuses to work at all -
same old problem - no 3Com connector lights and no lights on on the
router. Typed this so far then went back - and it sent 2 email from
the outbox using DHCP! So I then went to Notes and scribbled some
text - would not send by either DHCP or manual. Typed this bit then
went to Outbox and it sent using manual. Went back 10 minutes later
- no connection at all.

When DHCP won't work it says "Problem connecting. DHCP server
unavailable or unable to configure this device".
On a non-working manual setup the 3Com light blinks then goes out as
it attempts to connect but the Newt software goes as far as looking
up host then messages me "Couldn't resolve IP address"

It seems like an interface problem with the router but why should it
be intermittent? Surely it should work or not work?

Another example - while I have been writing this I've been trying it
again. DHCP worked on receive and send in MailV. I promptly went to
Notes and penned a short email text - would not connect on either
method. I returned to the Outbox and it actually sent the 2 "ready"
messages but not using DHCP (no connection) - manual worked.

Newtonian logic defies me! To me the Newt is worse than useless if I
can't get a reliable connection for email use.

Surely the collective geniuses here can come to my aid with a
solution to the problem? Please?

Brian
