Hmm, I follow a similar sequence, but make my M with straight lines
rather than curved ones:

|| \ / |
|| \ / |
|| \/ |

Sounds like you draw a capital 'M' as a larger version of a little 'm'.

| / \ / \
| / \ / \
|| || |
|| || |

Please pardon the ASCII art. Both styles should work fine, but as long
as you are having trouble why not try the other one, just in case it
works better for you?
