Newton MP 2000 arrived Thurs. 4/7/2005 @ 1:05pm EDT (US)!
incl. 3Com Etherlink III 3c589D-TP card and dongle.
Currently insertered to port 2 on Versalink router.
Prior:
Applied J. Vernet's IR utility for variey of pkgs. BRILLIANT!
(he refers to Thomas Templemann's work, so I will also...must be
BRILLIANT!)
Installed:
Internet Setup
Newton Devices
Newton Internet
NIE Ethernet
Farallon Enet
z3ComDrv:clli (? is this the patch? or a currupt file?)
Use internet setup. Added 'Generic' config. Seems ok. (but is never
'checked'...add...w/check...x....then no check...WHY?

No Ethernet.

Once this issue (and my overall Newton knowledge gets up to speed--I
can't imagine it ever being able to decipher my distinctive
scrawl..think 'Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard'...)
Still, if the 1mb ceiling isn't too hard, I intend to make books. Have
downloaded the 2 pdfs mentioned in posts few days back .. Kadre sci/fi
and cultural analysis..haven't read them yet ;)
I have the Book making tutorial (very detailed. will have to study up
more than the quick scan I gave it)
SOMEBODY has posted alot of books out there..Neuromancer..IRobot...
I'd like to add to that list as soon as I can.
I have 10mb WebPage space available from Verizon. If I can get THAT
working (have only seen their cookie cutter pre-fab tools...which might
be sufficient) it is likely to be Newt oriented.
Some quick personal history:
Was w/o ANY CPU for some time.
Acquired Wallstreet PB late Nov 2003 (Rev 1--233mhz...no L2 cache...12in
dual scan) 192mb RAM/10g HD. OS 9.1..33.6 dialup (never got 56k..don't
know why) Used MS IE 5.1. (grrr)
Early March 2005 upgraded Wallstreet to 384mb/Jaguar 10.2.8. DSL!
Also, acquired for next to $nothing, PB 1400c (166mhz/48mb RAM...11.3in
ACTIVE-MATRIX screen (!) ClarisWorks 4.0 w/manual...Zoom 56k pcmcia
modem...ext. mic. ...Targus leather bag...OS 9.1...(NO Ethernet) and
that one is now connected wireless...(!)
April 7, Newton MP 2000.(!!!)
So, in about 6 wks elapsed time, I have gone from 1 WS PB running OS
9.1..surfing a painfully slow 33.6...to a virtual new 'Jag'..DSL..a
wireless connected PB 1400c (and don't forget the ACTIVE MATRIX screen
(!) <SMILEY>
AND the Newton. Please forgive slips as I try to assimilate and become
versatile on the various platforms.
