I would like to set up my MP2100 for printing. Here's what I have
available:

ImageWriter II - I have read that the Newton does not support printing
to
this.

DeskWriter - Probably broken - when turned on, the print head bangs to
the left of the carriage and the error light comes on. Any thoughts?

DeskJet 500 - Working - Serial and Parallel ports. I currently have
this
on my PB1400 through the serial port by using one of two old, old
printer
drivers. Can the Newton print to the DeskJet 500's serial port?

Epson Stylus 740 - Working - Serial, Parallel and USB ports.

Hi,

if you want to print directly from the MessagePad/eMate, the Newton
printer cable is what you need.
All the printers you have was standard when this cable was produced.
The Newton printer cable got a Mac 8din connector on a side and a
parallel connector on the other.
In the parallel connector is installed a special chip with drivers
flashed into.

What would give me the best chance of success? I am easily capable of
constructing a special cable, if needed and if I had the pinouts. I do
have a Newton to PC 9-pin serial cable that I am using to connect to my
PB1400 using an adaptor.

Never heard that a modded cable could do the trick, sorry.
These cables are a bit hard to find (on eBay), but not so over-priced.
Probably someone on the list will have one more to sell or trade.
