Ouch. I was hoping you wouldn't say that. Since I've recovered
(thanks to miracles such as antibiotics, antihistamines, and aspirin)
a few of my wits in the meantime, I'm actually testing on my pristine
2000 that, up until a few minutes ago, hadn't been used for more than
five minutes since late 1998.

I'd use the 2100, but when I plug in the dongle it awakens but
refuses to connect to NCU via serial or appletalk (and the other ones
do. I think I know what caused the case damage on my spare now...
Someone dropped their 2100 on the dongle. *wince*)...

Since the spectre of dead Flash scares me silly, I'm going to try
the NIE2 install on the 2000 both with, and without, my restore image
and see what comes up. I'll post when I have some results.

Good point. I'll remove it, and HeapSaver. During the night, I awoke
and realized that maybe NIE2 didn't like HeapSaver's stealing its
install scripts for some reason. I would be overjoyed beyond compare
if that was the problem.

Those were installed partly due to them being in my restore image from
the 2000, and partly because old habits die hard (when coming from an
un-upgraded MP2000). I had a combo which worked well, and stable, and
had hoped NIE2 would integrate better with it, assuming the flash ram
isn't as damaged as I fear.

Thanks for the pointers, Victor. They'll be the first things I try
today as I take the long road to either figuring it out. Worse comes
to worst, I'll probably end up asking the list who is left that can do
Flash RAM chip replacements (Maybe a swap from my dongle-dead 2100 to
my good one? Easier to buy a motherboard from J&K sales and swap...).
