As many people on list have already mentioned, the higher the rating,
the longer the life of the battery - with no harm to your Newt. I have
the reverse situation - I have the Newton charger, but was given a sled
for AA only - I have no rechargeable Newton battery. I don't use it,
because I have no idea what would happen given the batteries I use -
not sure what they would or would not get recognized as, although I
presume it would just treat them as alkaline's, since it's in the AA
sled.

The reason for my reply though, is that I can't recommend these
batteries enough. They are not the cheapest, but they last awhile, and
charge faster than anything:

Rayovac's I-C3 system (never anywhere are they branded as NiMH, so I
assume they aren't). The charger is about $40 from CompUSA, and the
batteries come $15 per 4 at CompUSA as well. They charge in 15 minutes
flat, and last as long as any off the shelf NiMH I've ever bought from
CompUSA.

Buy.com seems to have them cheapest in non-retail stores (BestBuy and
Circuit City also carry them in-store.)

Buy.com has them for $10.65 for the batteries and $30.23 for the
charger. The charger will charge regular NiMH batteries (ie: non-I-C3
batteries), but it's an overnight charger in that case). Batteries from
Rayovac are rated at 1000 charges. Before this, I used to use their 1
hour charger, which could charge ANY NiMH AA or AAA in 1 hour. They
still sell that as well, since it's very useful if you have existing
NiMHs.
