Mine gave me one. I used a standard DSL modem Ethernet router
instead, and sold the USB thing on eBay.

I'm sorry if I said something dumb - I missed that info.

But surely you should be able to use an Ethernet modem/router without
any hassle? ADSL is simply a network service after all. A standard
router such as the Netgear DG834 or DG834G (with wireless) and
similar devices simply plug in and act as DHCP routers for whatever
asks. You type the device's IP address into a browser, give it your
DSL username and password, and you're there.

In my mostly Mac-based experience, Ethernet-based DSL is the simplest
way yet to get connected.
