        I like the iPod. The Newton lacks any way of getting a 30 gig
drive to work quickly, or cheaply, or get things to it quickly.

        But I do like the fact that when the Newton battery goes out
that it is not major surgery to get it replaced. :)

Personally, I'm not sure I totally agree. With the exception of some
of the add-ons for voice notes and reading digital storage cards of
photos, the iPod is still a "read-only" device. Yes, you can see your
calendar and notes, but you still need the desktop system to
enter/update them.

If anything, the iPod represents the antithesis of the Newton paradigm
and more closely resembles the Palm paradigm (desktop extension rather
than full-feature handheld system). It can be argued that the iPod is
really more akin to the Rexx (sp?) only with a bigger screen, a lot
more storage, and music player.
