NIE 1.1 works just fine with the MP2000. You don't get ethernet, but you do
get dial-up internet. And, more important, you get more heap memory left
over.

As Robert suggested, try the different "modem setup" choices located in
Prefs --> Modem. I have several Megahertz modems that I use, and different
models work with different choices in Prefs. While there, make sure to
specify which slot the modem is in.
