This is why SD cards are more expensive:

It is a licensed technology that requires any
manufacturere to pay a license fee, along with a
membership fee to the SD Association just to use the
technology...
As far as I can tell, CF doesn't have that
restriction...It's the whole Sony thing all over
again...develop some really good technology then set
the license fee too high so nobody will use it...then
it fades into obsurity..
