Hi all;

I am getting ready to move, and since unfortunately we are downsizing space
wise, some things have to go.

I got my eMate about 2 years ago, and it came in very havy while finishing
college (Class of '03 :-). I am old Mac diehard (my first computer was a
classic back in the late 80's, moving on to my Performa, PPC 9500, G3 and G4),
but I hardly use it anymore. The significant other is eying it for the trash
(NOOO!!!), so I figured I'd try and find a good home for it before the beast
does.

It' in very nice shape, no cracks, no scratches, just some pen marks where the
previous owner scratched out her school-aged son's name from the bottom (she
was a parent at a school that was using eMates). The lid is still very tight
and snaps perfectly.

A short time after I got it, the battery stopped holding a charge (common I
hear), so I attempted to rebuild the battery pack with new cells. My first
attempt failed miserably, and I did serious damage to the little circuit that
bridges the connection of the bottom cells of the battery pack.

I tried again, this time doing a better job, making a complete battery pack
with 2100mAh cells. I managed to keep the original temperature sensor and the
original top wiring the interfaces with the port inside the emate.

Upon charging, it holds a charge well (takes about 30 minutes to an hour), and
you can use it for a few hours at a time. However, if you start doing anything
intensive (lots of card reading constantly, heavy handwriting recognition for,
say, entire paragraphs), the battery reading suddenly drops to about 40%, and
it dies abruptly. When you try and press the power button, the Newton screen
appears along with the chime for about 1 second, then dies. Subsequent tries
yield the same result, until you charge it again.

I think maybe despite my best pack building efforts, it might need a new
battery pack, but I'm sure the Newton Wise Men will know what's wrong from the
symptoms. It's otherwise perfect, and comes with it's original power brick, as
well as an extra eMate stylus I bought and never used, still in the package.

If anyone is interested, let me know; I'm not sure what to ask price wise,
maybe a little objective advice about that? Email me at cameraboy9_at_yahoo.com;
my eBay name is jon0901 in case you wanna check out my "credentials" (sad that
feedback is how we judge people nowadays! Father to Daughter at dinner table:
"That new boy you met, his he a good boy? What's his feedback?" :-)

Thanks, and sorry for the long wind,
Jon
