So I assume that you connected the power adaptor
and already tried the brainwipe on your MP2000 #1.
So I had a similar situation with an MP2100.
The problem was a system patch that was installed once and incompatible.
The only way I know so far is to swap the ROM boards.
As soon as you insert a different ROM board the Newt will clean up ALL its
internal memory including the special area where the system patches reside.
Getting rid of that system patch (I do not know whatever it was) solved my
problem.
