Believe it or not, though i don't have the technical acuity required,
it may be possible with a method such as the one used here:

I remember really wanting to try this out but never getting around to
it. I think the method has also been done for Doom. Basically it
involves rendering the display in ASCII!

I figure it won't work with stuff like Q3A, Half Life, et. al., but I
think ID Software did make the Quake and Doom sourcecodes available at
one point (perhaps I'm mistaken?), so heck, I'll take Quake or Doom in
a pinch, I don't much need those newfangled "sequel" type games.

Any takers with way too much time on their hands?
