Hopefully by 2010 pocket pcs will have reached the point where their
functionality and battery life will have caught up with the current Newton.

AFAIR I thought someone was working on a 2010 fix?

Also, to answer your other question: Yes, the Newton is incapable of
accepting appointments and schedules after 2010 (though, if I'm
remembering correctly, the Newton will still work if you can live
without a datebook).
