I have a friend who just traveled to the Philippines and back with his
Newton...no problem, however they were quite intrigued with the device!

The answer is simple:
the stylus is so well hidden (unless you take it out yourself)
that NOBODY ever realised that there is one "sharp" device.
But I got the impression that the situation is relaxed inbetween, at
least
in Europe...
