Subject: [NTLK] X-Port with OS X?

I admit I'm a little unclear as to what exactly the full capabilities
of X-Port are, but I understand it support export of NewtonWorks
documents to a Mac. Therefore I have two questions: will it run under
OS X, and if so, can it understand a TCP/IP connection so I can use my
802.11b card to get the info to and from my Powerbook without hooking
up the Keyspan? I've been able to browse web pages and get my e-mail
with 802.11b and the Newton, but I've yet to get a stable connection
for Escale and/or nSync with it and have given up on the idea unless
someone who has pulled it off can show me if they visit Seattle,
Portland, or San Francisco at the same time I do...

Well I can't answer for OS X, I can tell you what X-port does. I comes with
two parts, the desktop part (both windows and mac) and the newton part. You
install the newton part with something like NCU or X-port itself (the
desktop part) and it will give you a new routing option called X-port (which
works like any other routing menu item).

Basically it will allow you to export almost anything to the desktop. Some
older apps don't allow for extra routing options however. To X-port start up
the desktop half and click "receive" set a file name and what type of file
you are x-porting (graphic or text) and hit ok. It will then be waiting for
the newton to connect. Now just be viewing a item you wish to send to your
desktop, tap the routing item and tap X-port. A slip then appears with some
adjustable options, some depending on if you installed some X-port
extensions as well as the main package (x-porting to RTF format for example)
select now for time, hit send and away it goes.

X-port has several options for importing and xporting of names and you
custom set up the way it exports so it can be imported into a database,
spreadsheet, or other type of address book that accepts comma separated
text.

It also can do screen captures, install packages, and import from the
desktop (graphics and text). I have found it a very handy utility and I use
it quite often. I just wish that they did the upgrade to allow
importing/exporting of sounds. Oh well
