Which sources are you referencing to substantiate that statement?
There would seem to be a significant number historians and texts that
would dispute that view.
How does that sit with their prime role and reason for being founded,
protecting pilgrims on pilgrimage - which lead to one of the first
international banking systems, which later lead to the Papal Bull being
granted, given their significant financial influence.

The Catholic church is it's own state, it has it's own currency and it
has it's own army.

Are you saying the Templars were the Vatican "black op's" of their day?
