As far as I know, it my Newton only stays on if it is plugged in at night.
According to the FAQ (Hardware),
4) Why does my Newton wake up at 3 AM?
(From Robert Sexton's FAQ) The Newton wakes up to move your Todos over from
yesterday, and do other housekeeping.
