I have since upgraded to a 2100, and I am of the opinion that it is
hands-down the best Newton ever made, but the 130 is a wonderful blend
of size, form and function. For a PDA, the 130 wins. For the best
Newton OS device, the 2100 wins. For the best Newton OS
computer/laptop, I suppose the eMate would have to win, but I've never
used one. I've always suspected it would feel too slow to me, so I
would stick with the 2100. It's difficult for me to pick out one as my
favorite, but I would split it between the 130 and 2100 for my
favorites.

I thought so too about the Emate, but you know, it has some
features that we look for in the Newton 2000, like OS 2.1, built in
works, cool case, built in Audio port (amplified!!), choice between
Apple or funky Newton serial port, kewl keyboard, hard wired buttons for
things normally on the menu bar (close, menu, dock, send, receive,
scroll up, scroll down, overview, undo, find, assist, light, and power.
Keys are a nice size). The speed of the Emate is slow at some expected
things (like pulling up the extras menu... sometimes too anemic to pull
up large cards with a lot on them) but the Newton is fast at things I
wouldn't have expected it to, like movies, and audio playback. Really
surprised there.
Emate cannot use anything other than 5v read, 5v write cards,
which means more modern cards (my luck has been with the new 32 meg
cards and most ATA cards!)

In truth, I'm seeing why people want to stick a Newton 2000 in a
Emate case with the built in keyboard. That would be beyond awesome.
