Thanks David (and all) for the insight - I assume the pixel measurements are
specific to the Newton itself (i.e. if I wanted to measure it out for other
systems I would need to find the pixel size and Gap)?

There are two things here that people tend to confuse.
There is the resolution of the display and the output of the display
adapter.

The display adapter could be anything. It depends on which adapter is in the
machine and what driver is talking to it.

The native resolution of any screen, however, is fixed.
There are a certain number of pixels in a given area - period.

The Newton has a 320 x 480 pixel area.
Each pixel is 0.245mm square.
They have a 0.015mm gap between them.
Active area is 124.8mm x 83.2mm

Pixel + Gap = 0.245 + 0.015 = 0.26mm

1 inch = 25.4mm

25.4mm / 0.26mm = ~97.69 DPI
