There used to be a beat application that allowed you to change the
startup screen on 1.3 machines, don't remember the name though. (might
have been StartUp Screen ;-)

For a picture on the backdrop, not sure if there are backup
replacements like Avi's that run on OS 1.3, maybe somevody alse on this
list knows?
