I just went thru this.

I have a mp2100 & an ibook with Jaguar. Here is what I did.

I wanted to use 802.11. I have a linksys wap-11 at my house, with a
wide open network. my ibook has an airport card, and I have a Lucent
Wavelan for the Newton.

- get the software
   - 802.11 driver - http://www.ff.iij4u.or.jp/~ngc/eng/newtwave.htm
   - NCU - www.unna.org

You will be using classic to run NCU under Jaguar-- but yo don't have
to boot into os9 at any point.

- install 802.11 driver on newton
   - have it use Appletalk - check the box upon insertion of card

- set up Internet Connection - Setup/Internet Setup and configure for
ethernet and your card.
If you have Internet Setup, then you have NIE

- Install NCU on mac. This will start Classic and the install will take
a while. The beach ball spins and spins-- let it finish.

- Set the Sharing name of your mac
   - you have to do this via classic
   - make sure classic is running
   - navigate to the System Folder/Control Panels/File Sharing
   - set the name of your mac to something

- Turn on Appltalk in OSX
   - Open Network Preferences
   - Choose the Appletalk tab, click on 'make appletalk active'
   - click on 'apply now'
   - Verify that appletalk is on:
    - navigate to /System Folder/Apple Menu Items/Choose and run it
    - the chooser should have Appletalk enabled already selected

- Make Newton use Ethertalk
   - choose Prefs app on newton
   - click on AppleTalk
   - connect using 'ethertalk'
   - choose your networking card

Make connection

- run NCU on mac
   - In prefs, choose Appletalk connections

- run dock on newton
   - connect via AppleTalk
   - connect to - choose 'Other computer'
The Newton should open a choose where you can see your mac.
Choose it. You should be connected.
